That Which I Cannot See: Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra
Premiered by Princeton Sinfonia in May of 2025, this bombastic new tuba concerto was inspired by three photographs from Michael Kenna’s “Rouge” series. The tuba, our protagonist, struggles against the encroaching might of industrialization and the anthropocene (represented by the orchestra). It is increasingly surrounded and forced to battle for its soul and ours. This piece also contends with the difficult, yet liberating, task of admitting that which one cannot know.
